Kepi Ghoulie
Went on
Back at Redrum in Stafford for another mid-week gig. Thankfully there were more people than at the Danny Attack and Jeshua Marshall gig a week before. There was a definite energy in the crowd, with fans of both bands keeping things energetic.
The Scumbags, a three-piece band from Wolverhampton, came on stage at 8pm. They had a high-energy punk-rawk style, that reminded me of The Mr. T Experience. They played fast and catchy songs and even threw in a Ramones cover or two.
Next up was Kepi Ghoulie, who has had a long career in the punk-rock scene. He is probably best known for the band Groovie Ghoulies, who made music from 1983 until 2007. Since then he's been focused on solo projects and re-recording Ghoulies' songs.
Kepi brought his fully electric band featuring members of Chixdiggit and The Queers! The pace continued, with more short and fast songs.
For one song Kepi requested the stage lights to be turned off – and he wasn't joking! The singer from The Scumbags came on stage to sing one song with Kepi. Halfway through the lights were turned off again and stayed off for the rest of the performance! The set-list was compiled by two fan provided lists and they also played requests.
The whole night had a vibe of Lookout! Records early 90s scene. It was 1 hour 30 minutes of fast-paced music and I was in bed by 10pm!
