Hold the Dark

I have watched this movie once. This was on .

After the deaths of three children suspected to be killed by wolves, writer Russell Core is hired by the mother of a missing six-year-old boy to track down and locate her son in the Alaskan wilderness.

A revenge story with multiple layers that unfortunately muddy the overall cohesion. The film is well acted with some good photography, but moves at a lethargic pace. There are some interesting ideas, maybe too many, but none really get much exploration. Unlike Saulnier’s previous films, the meandering plot suffers from a lack of focus. An understated film with flashes of intense violence.
