Well, that was probably the best night out in Bradford I’ve had since being a student. I headed down around 9.30, before the schedueled “doors open” at 10, to give Phil (DJ) and his brother, Simon (door man) a hand. The night started slow but by 11.30 it was quite busy. It was only a small venue, max capacity of 100, but it did the job.
To start off no one was dancing what-so-ever. I felt stupid dancing on my own as others (a few I knew) looked on in disgust and disbelief. But eventually people started to join me and then I didn’t look so silly. Phil played a wicked Ska set which got a lot of people skanking along.
The night came to a close on “Time of your life” by Greenday. People sang along and then the night was over. Hell, Phil got an encore chorus, to which he didn’t oblige! Overall the night was a great success for everyone. I certainly enjoyed myself, and seemily other people did. Phil & Simon made some cash. Even the bar staff got paid for not having to do much. An all round winner. So much so they’re thinking about making it a monthly event, either at the union or a rock venue in Bradford town center.
I shall post details on the next event as soon as I am aware of the plans. Until then keep your diaries free for a kick ass night of great music and silly dancing (especially by me).
Luckily, I think everyone thought I was drunk, I was, however, completely sober! At least no one knows… my secrets safe I think.
