DOM Scripting
Monday 24th October 2005
Finally, I have my new web development book; Dom Scripting: Web design with JavaScript and the Document Object Model, by the UKs very own Jeremy Keith. But with great power comes great responsibility. Dom Scripting, Page XXI The introduction by Dave Shea starts off with the following rant… JavaScript? No way. It’s inaccessible,…Firefox Reaches 100 Million Downloads

Firefox Reaches 100 Million Downloads. 100,000,000,000 million?Google Mail UK
Wednesday 19th October 2005
On opening my browser this morning, my default tabs opened as normal, both Gmail and Google IG appeared. (Has this page got a proper name (and I’m not talking about the generic “personalized homepage” crap, and if not, why not!) Note that Googling for “personalized” or “personalised” returns this page is the number one result…). Now, I…Free Mac Wifi
Tuesday 18th October 2005
In the US, Nintendo and MacDonalds have teamed up with the Wi-Fi provider Wayport to allow wireless internet hotspots in their resturants. Nintendo WiFi will allow users of the DS to play other people over the internet, for free. What will this mean? More consumers will play online, making a better and ranging experience for everyone who uses…I Am Buying AOL
Friday 14th October 2005
I am considering buying AOL. If anyone has any spare pennies they want to throw my way, donations would be appreciated. Competition includes Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and Dave PellThe Source Of Popularity
Friday 14th October 2005
There are plenty of social-based websites around nowadays. A lot of them have a niche market, MySpace seems to be building a pretty large user base. With all these sites, you make a profile, write about yourself, add photos and other little snippets of information. What makes them them, is the ability to add friends and network. Now, most…Windows Twentieth Anniversary
Friday 14th October 2005
Well, this month “celebrates” the twentieth anniversary of Microsoft Windows. It’s the operating system used on nearly 95 percent of all the desktops and notebooks sold worldwide http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1868435,00.asp I say “celebrate”, however, most of us can’t live without Windows now. It’s an integrated part of our…Shopping In CSS
Wednesday 12th October 2005
Dabs.com, an online electronic retailer, has converted to a CSS-based design and XHTML. This is a cool step forward, and hopefully they can disclose what real world commercial benefits they come across. The design is a fluid, full-width affair, with nice icons, a good choice of colours and round-edge boxes. However, it’s far from perfect, with…Microsoft And Yahoo Combine Instant Messengers
Wednesday 12th October 2005
Well, finally, it has been announced that Microsoft and Yahoo are combining their instant messenger networks. This merger seems like a way to compete with AOL’s AIM which reportedly has 51.5 million unique users within the US. MSN Messenger has around 27 million and Yahoo! Messenger about 22 million. So, combining those users gives both…XML, XSLT And AJAX
Monday 10th October 2005
Does an XML page, transformed with XSLT using XMLHTTPRequest (aka AJAX, but I need the former non-cool name for the joke to work) for on-the-fly asynchronous requests produce a site full of adult material?
