Exams Over
Thursday 20th January 2005
Today saw me take my last exam of this university two week exam period. It’s dawned on me that this Telecommunications and Networking exam, a multiple choice question paper, will probably be the last exam I have at university. Then I realised it’ll probably the last exam I take. EVER! I might have to take some small tests but nothing like…Search Highlighting Patent

There is an interesting new post over at A List Apart which introduces the “ALA experimental / controversial content warning”. Let ALA explain what this means… It’s a warning that the article that it precedes uses experimental techniques to do cool things that we’d like to do more simply but haven’t managed to yet - or suggests better ways…Browsers Shop

I wonder what browsers they sell, I hope they’ve discontinued IE.IPod Volume Unlocker
Saturday 15th January 2005
I like loud things. When I first got my iPod mini I scrolled up the volume control to full. I was a little disappointed with the level it stopped at though it was extremely quite like on the audio limiter I had on my old minidisc player and even older portable tape player. However, I was told today that the volume limiter in European versions…Critical IE Flaws
Friday 14th January 2005
Oops, IE is at it again… Millions of Internet Explorer 6 users are at risk from three “extremely critical” security holes that give hackers open access to PCs running the browser - even if Windows XP Service Pack Two has been installed. The first issue centres on the browser’s drag and drop capability, which does not validate new files…@Media Conference
Wednesday 12th January 2005
I’ve been envious of the Web Essentials conference that was in Sydney from the 30th of September to the 1st of October last year ever since I found out about it in the summer. Obviously it was out of my reach being at university and all the way around the world, but it had some top-notch names there. Well I’ve found out about another conference…PodSite
Wednesday 12th January 2005
What’s this you might well ask, well let me let the official podsite site explain. A podSite is our name for a collection of text files, with links to other text files, and possibly sound files and image files stored, and accessible on an iPod. Think of it as a website for your iPod. Or a slice of the web, in your…IPod World
Tuesday 11th January 2005
I found a funny video short called “iPod World”. It shows a world where Apple’s iPod style has been used for ordinary, every-day items such as a pedestrian crossing control panel and where you order ‘iPod’ like you would do cheese and Mini iPods like you did for old sweets, per the quarter. This looks like it was from BBC Three comedy show….Review Of The Year
Tuesday 11th January 2005
Everyone usually does a review of the year but my memory is terrible. However, Neil from Neil’s World has found a nice way of presenting what you talked about over the last year on your website. The idea is that you copy the first sentance from the first post you made each month. Here’s mine since March, because that’s when I…Sift Job Feedback
Monday 10th January 2005
I received a reply to a job I applied to last week. I sent off my CV and a covering letter. Then they required a CSS-driven, semantic HTML markup and accessible mockup of an image they provided. I sent mine back finished the day I received it. Here’s the reply I got: We were certainly impressed with the quality of your code and the way you…Bradford Bloggers
Sunday 9th January 2005
Lord Rich has collected together posts from bloggers from around Bradford. The idea has come from a suggestion of us Bradford bloggers meeting us. I first got the idea of a meet up from the Brit Pack web standards developers. I passed the idea to Chris Owen about a meet up for web standards developers in training, a university gang. This has…Please Buy Me A Sony QRIO
Sunday 9th January 2005
The Sony QRIO is the best piece of kit I’ve ever witnessed. It is an extremely clever humanoid robot that can walk, dance, play football and throw a ball amongst a lot of other things. It has stereoscopic vision curtosy of the two cameras in it’s head, situated just like our eyes. It has some cool balance features, if you push it gently it…Derren Brown Is Scary

Derren Brown is a scary, dangerous man!Tsunami: Before And After
Friday 7th January 2005
There are some satellite photos from regions effected by the terrible tsunami that hit just before New Year showing villages and towns before and the horrific devastation after. These images give a new perspective on the disater differing from the local view point, showing the wider scale. The before photos also give an indication of how…Big Band Jazz And Swing
Friday 7th January 2005
Don’t miss this excellent evening of Big Band, Jazz & Swing music from some of the most exciting musicians in the UK. http://www.royal-spa-centre.co.uk/whatson.php\n I won’t miss (hopefully).Accessible Odeon Website
Tuesday 4th January 2005
I heard over to the Odeon website to check some film times. I know that the main site doesn’t work in Firefox so I am just about to fire up Internet Explorer until I notice three new buttons on the splash screen homepage. These are: Enter Odeon.co.uk”, Film times (text based version) Accessibility information I tab open the film times…Woohoo, It Works
Monday 3rd January 2005
I had been wondering the last few days whether the first weblog content management system I wrote, this weblog you’re reading now, would work in the new year. But look, the calendar shows January ‘05 and I test the system earlier and it seems to be working! I will check over the code and try and catch any potential problems that may arise, but…
